When families join the SROHS community, they commit to supporting their students as outlined in the Community Agreements. Parents/guardians play a crucial role at the beginning of the learning journey by staying highly involved, while gradually releasing responsibility to their students over time.
We help families navigate this process through our Level Up system, which is explained later in this handbook. In the meantime, here’s what effective parental support looks like:
Help your student establish a consistent learning routine and encourage participation in synchronous activities, such as Homebase and Power-Up sessions.
Help set up a learning space that fits your student’s needs.
Check your email regularly for communication from teachers or administrators, and encourage your student to maintain communication with staff.
Monitor student progress using tools like PowerSchool and weekly progress reports.
Advocate for your student by working with their mentor if challenges arise.
Help your student understand and use the Frameworks for Learning and teacher-provided resources.
Ensure your student has the right tools for learning (internet access, Chromebook or laptop—it is difficult to succeed using only a phone).
Support your student in understanding Academic Integrity and why it is important to produce original work by reviewing this Academic Integrity Guide with your student
