This policy helps us track how you’re doing, gives support when you need it, and celebrates when you’re thriving. (Yes, State and Federal Laws require us to track this.) 😅

🚨 Missing your mentor meeting without a valid excuse?
→ It counts as an absence
→ ON YOUR THIRD MISSED MEETING-- $25 will be deducted from your Learning Funds (you won’t be charged if you give at least a 1-hour notice)

You’ve got four topics per course
Most students take about 12 courses per year so doing two topics a week keeps you on track.
To be marked present, submit at least 1 artifact of learning each week
📚 Required Tutoring (If Needed)
If you're falling behind in a course that you're actively working on, your mentor may assign you a tutoring session to help you catch up. 🧠 This session becomes required.

Crushing it? You might earn more independence!
If you:
✅ Make steady progress
✅ Attend your mentor meeting
✅ Fill out your Weekly Check-In Survey
…for 6 weeks in a row, you may qualify to opt out of weekly meetings!
🎉 You’ll complete a short Mentor Meeting Agreement with your mentor, outlining your responsibilities to:
Continue submitting work weekly
Complete the Weekly Check-In Survey on your own
Stay in touch when you need help
🔁 But If You Slip…
If you’re excused from weekly meetings, and then:
Don’t make progress for 2 weeks
OR skip the Check-In Survey for two consecutive weeks
🔁 You’ll be re-enrolled in weekly mentor meetings until you're back on track

🌟 Step 1: Gentle Check-In
What It Looks Like (Support-Focused)
A mentor or staff member sends a friendly message — “We missed you! Everything okay?”
Student Experience
A short message shows someone noticed and cares. You can reply directly to share what’s going on or ask for help.
🧭 Step 2: Partnership Plan
If the issue continues, your mentor schedules a time with you to co-create a quick Engagement Plan: goals + small supports (e.g., simplified goals, time blockers, fewer distractions).
You get a plan that fits your life, not one-size-fits-all. Your voice drives the plan
🧠 Step 3: Support Team Huddle
You, your mentor, a counselor (and a parent/guardian if you’re under 18) meet briefly to talk about barriers and adjust the plan. Your Learning Funds are paused during this phase. You can resume using your funds after two weeks of being active (don’t remember what that means, look above).
This is about uncovering why you’re stuck, not punishing you for it. We want to build the bridge with you.
🌈 Step 4: Restart Phase
The team provides a 2-week reset period with prioritized check-ins, simplified course expectations, and small wins to rebuild momentum. Admin is notified to help connect additional supports if needed.
This phase is about restarting, not removing. We reduce the noise and focus on what matters. You’re not alone.
🛑 Step 5: Decision Point
If support, check-ins, and collaboration haven’t helped, we meet one final time to talk honestly about fit. If another school or program would better serve your needs, we help with that transition.
We still care. This isn’t punishment — it’s helping you find the best path forward, even if it’s a new one.

Excused absences: Illness, emergencies, etc. → Let us know, we can mark it as an excused absence.
Appeals: Think we got it wrong? Send a written request + backup docs.
SPED/504 services: Missing services without 1 hour notice = ON THE THIRD MISSED MEETING, each meeting will cost you $25 from your Learning Funds.. After SIX no-shows, your team will meet to plan support.
No engagement in the first 10 days? = Removed from the school
