Learning Objective: As a student, it’s essential to learn how to cook healthy and balanced meals that can provide your body with the necessary nutrients for a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, knowing how to set the table and host a meal can help you create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for your family and friends.
Instructions:
Plan and prepare a well-balanced meal that includes foods from different food groups, such as vegetables, fruits, proteins, grains, and dairy. The meal should be healthy and provide adequate nutrients for a balanced diet.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic food safety practices by following the guidelines below:
Properly wash produce before use.
Handle meat safely by keeping it separate from other foods and cooking it to the appropriate temperature.
Store food at safe temperatures to prevent spoilage and contamination.
Use food preservation techniques such as freezing or canning to prevent food waste.
Properly set a table for a meal, including place settings, utensils, and serving dishes. The table should be arranged in a way that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Show an understanding of how to host a meal, including:
Planning a menu that includes dishes from different food groups.
Inviting guests and making them feel welcome.
Setting a pleasant atmosphere and ensuring everyone is comfortable.
Submission Requirements:
Take photos or record a video of the entire process, including the preparation of the meal, setting the table, and hosting the meal. Submit a written presentation, slideshow, video, etc… explaining the following:
The rationale for selecting the meal and its nutritional value.
The food safety practices that were used during the preparation of the meal.
The table setting and the reason for the chosen arrangement.
The overall experience of hosting the meal and any lessons learned.
