Creative Writing B
Course Description
This course provides an opportunity for high school students to pursue creative writing work. Students will have an introduction to elements and craft of various genres of creative writing including argumentative, informative, narrative, research, persuasive, and production and distribution of writing. Students can draw from their own experiences or from learning in other courses.
Write Research Text
Learn this: I will learn how to conduct short as well as more sustained research projects.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know how to:
Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, avoiding plagiarism.
Follow a standard format for citation (MLA or APA).
Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

Production and Distribution of Writing
Learn this: I will produce clear and coherent writing, develop and strengthen writing through revision, and use technology to publish writing.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know how to:
Create writing that is organized and the style is appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
Develop and strengthen writing by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, and edit for conventions.
Use technology to produce and publish writing.
Demonstrate a command of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, spelling, and punctuation.

Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas
Learn this: I will use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update writing projects.

Persuasive Writing
Learn this: I will write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know how to:
Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer's purpose.
Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details.
Link opinion and reasons using transition words and phrases (e.g., for instance, in order to, in addition).
Provide a concluding statement or section related to the opinion presented.
