In English 1A, students build essential skills in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking to prepare for their future goals. They will read and analyze a variety of texts—including fiction, nonfiction, and media—to develop comprehension and interpretive skills. All topics align with Idaho State Standards and are designed to help students grow as thoughtful, effective communicators.

Students learn to analyze seminal historical texts, understand their themes and historical context, and connect their ideas to modern society.
Students learn to analyze how media uses words, images, sounds, and design to influence emotions and persuade audiences.
Students learn to analyze how stories change across different formats and how these changes reveal new perspectives and ideas.
