Course Description
In English 1B, students focus on strengthening their writing and research skills while continuing to develop as effective communicators. They learn to organize ideas clearly, support their thinking with evidence from credible sources, and express themselves with clarity and purpose. Emphasis is placed on conducting research, evaluating sources, and citing information accurately. All topics align with Idaho State Standards and support continued growth as confident, critical thinkers and communicators.
Topic 1: Process Writing
Topic 1: Process Writing
Students learn how to write an informational, step-by-step guide on a topic you know well, explaining each part of the process clearly and concisely.
Topic 2: Narrative- a Personal Growth Story
Topic 2: Narrative- a Personal Growth Story
Students create a project that demonstrates deeper understanding of this topic by showing how pacing, transitions, and tone appear and work together in a piece of literature.
Topic 3: Writing and Research- Part 1
Research and annotated bibliography
Topic 3: Writing and Research- Part 1
Research and annotated bibliography
Students learn to research events using different media, evaluate sources, and create annotated bibliographies.
Topic 4: Writing and Research - Part 2
Topic 4: Writing and Research - Part 2
Students learn how to research, take organized notes, and use MLA format to give credit to the original sources.
