US History A
Course Description
The purpose of this core course is to help students make connections between what they learn about the past and the present to understand how and why events happen and people act in certain ways. We want to gain a better understanding of America's beginnings so that we can use and transition the information learned into what is happening in the world today. Students will examine the evolution of the American Identity by looking at cultural differences and how they influence various groups. Students will also gain knowledge of the political sphere and how it has developed across the US.
Influence of Peoples' Movements
Learn this: I will learn how immigrants moving to the United States have affected its culture and politics.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know how the role of the movement of people influenced:
the government of the United States.
the expansion of the United States
the economic development of the United States.
the social policy and culture of the United States.

Influence of New Technology and Knowledge
Learn this: I will learn how the political, social, and economic responses to changes in our economy developed the culture of the United States.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know:
the political responses to the Industrial Revolution.
how and why the US economy changed as a result of new technology.
why the culture and social beliefs adapted and changed as the US adopted economic revolutions and new technology.

Influence of the US Economic System
Learn this: I will learn basic economic concepts, and identify different influences on economic systems.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know how:
the United States develops into a market economy.
the Wildcat banking era resulted in changes in the US economy.
fiscal policy and the gold standard influenced economic growth.

Influence of Conflicts within the United States
Learn this: Students will develop an understanding of the armed and social/cultural conflicts that led to the development of the United States.
Do this: I will create a project that shows that I know:
the reasons conflicts in early American history started.
how the individual conflicts in early American history changed the course of the United States.
