World Religions B
Course Description
World Religions is an elective Social Studies course that will examine religion through a historical, social, political, and economic lens. Students will understand the connection between religion and society, and the many ways these two ideas are intertwined. By looking at both the origins of religion and our modern world, students will have a fuller understanding of the beliefs, culture, and conflict surrounding the religions of the world. This course will cover a variety of religions from all over the world throughout the year, examining each through historical, cultural, and sociological contexts. Section A of World Religions will look specifically at Monotheistic religions. Section B of World Religions will look at Polytheistic and Non-theistic religions.
Hinduism
Learn this: I will learn the foundations and basic tenets of Hinduism and what is required of believers.
Do this: I will create a project that demonstrates what I have learned and shows I know:
The history of the formation and growth of Hinduism.
The relationship between religion and the society where it is practiced.
The relationships and tensions between various religions throughout history.
Examine the growth and changes in world religions from their foundation to today
Compare the different religious traditions from around the world.

Ancient Egypt
Learn this: I will learn the foundations and basic tenets of Egyptian Polytheism and what is believed.
Do this: I will create a project that demonstrates what I have learned and shows I know:
The history of the formation and growth of Ancient Egyptian religion.
The relationship between religion and the society where it is practiced.
The relationships and tensions between various religions throughout history.

Ancient Greek and Rome
